A day in the life of a professional motocross racer is different for each rider. Every day professional racers wake-up and begin their routine that they have had their entire lives. A professional racer I want to focus on today is Jett Lawrence who is 17 years old from Australia. Jett is by far the youngest racer in the professional ranks and is also one of the most talented. Much like many riders Jett wakes up on Monday morning around 7:00 AM to eat breakfast and to go on a bike ride for roughly 8-10 miles. A common misconception is that motocross does not require someone to be in good shape and the only requirement is to sit and twist a throttle. Motocross is by far the most physically demanding sports on earth that requires racers to be in the best shape they can be to avoid injury. Jett puts himself above most when it comes to training to win races. After his bike ride Jett travels to his race teams private track to do “moto’s” with his teammates. These “moto’s” consist of two separate thirty minute timed laps on the track where racers gauge their speed for the upcoming weekend. Jett chooses to train with his teammates because he feels that it gives him a better opportunity to compete during the week. After Jett is done practicing at the track, he returns home for an afternoon workout with his trainer. Usually he will train two separate times in the gym throughout the day. Nutrition is one of the most important aspects when it comes to be a top professional motocross racer. It is especially important for Jett because he is still so young, and his body is still developing. Jett relies on his trainer each week to construct meal plans for everyday of the week to assure that he is getting the proper nutrients he needs in order to be successful. Jett is only 17 and most of his competitors are in there mid 20’s and many having families of their own. So, his day differs from most of his competitors in a few ways. When he completes his day of riding and training, he often fills the remainder of his day with tasks that distract him from the grueling grind of training every day. Living in Southern California he has the opportunity to go surfing from time to time. This is just one of the many activities that he enjoys doing to take his mind off of racing. Another activity that he enjoys doing is spending time with his family and friends whenever he can. Jett faces more adversity than any other competitor because he is at such a disadvantage with his age. Being a professional motocross racer, the question isn’t will I get hurt? But the question is when will I get hurt and how bad will it be? This is difficult for a young man to comprehend especially when he is getting paid millions of dollars to perform for a team. So, spending time at the beach or time with family gives Jett a chance to not focus on that aspect of the support and allows him to be a kid. Jett Lawrence is a one of a kind motocross rider and is already showing the industry that he will be a future champion. The work and dedication that Jett puts into his routine every day is the reason why he will be a future champion. Motocross is a sport that takes a toll on your mental health and a lot of riders see their careers fade away because they let this overcome them. Jett focuses on his routine that he has had since he was old enough to throw his leg over a motorcycle.
